Recently, we were lucky enough to be pivotal figures in the surprise 50th birthday party of a dear friend. Andrew was the decoy, to lure him away for a set # of hours on a set task. The boys and I joined his wife and granddaughter for set up and party-time!
I tend to avoid large groups and parties, but this was such a wonderful day. Sometimes what you most need in the midst of a long cold winter is a reason to celebrate and come together to honor someone wonderful. Our close friendships in this community have taken a long time to cement, but I’m so thankful for them. In rural and remote communities, your support system is all there is, and you sink or swim with or without it.
